      <description>American Idol this week introduced the remaining contestants with "This is your top 7." Should it be "These are your top 7"?  The latter sounds better to my ears, since there are 7 remaining contestants, but maybe the former, "this is", is an acceptable alternative.

And now writing "top 7", I am wondering if it should be "top 7" or "Top 7".  Perhaps the former is plural and the latter is singular.</description>
