James, you're not taking your own advice. You say, "You and me, we used to be together", it's "we" that is doing be "being together", not the "you and me"; therefore "you and me" is correct. Well, if you want to know why that's incorrect, take your advice of removing everyone apart from yourself from the sentence. Thus you get "me used to be together," which is obviously incorrect. It should be "You and I, we used to be together." "You and I" is still the plural subject, a substitute for the plural subjective pronoun "we."

I think an easy test, to see which one is correct, is to replace the nouns with a plural pronoun. "You and I" is "We". "You and me" is "Us".

Now, do we say "Between we" or "Between us"?

If you can turn the phrase around and it sounds correct then it is. Example: Just between you and me would be correct because you could say "just between me and you", but you couldn't say "just between I and you".

I need to listen to this and the reflexive pronoun podcast again, but I am getting it. I is a subject pronoun and me is an object pronoun. I like the Jessica Simpson clip more than the Celine Dion clip, but now I can't enjoy it as much because I know it is grammatically incorrect >.>
