Passive voice was never said to be 'wrong' in any way or form. Grammar Girl simply stated that active voice is understood better by a larger number of people.

Using Active Voice:
More people can understand and therefore buy more of your works.

Using Passive Voice:
More 'educated' people like the style, but you lose a large portion of the population as potential readers.

And as for the example of education Grammar Girl noted, we must face that she was not pointing her finger at anyone who left school early who took upon themselves the massive undertaking of educating themselves by the love or reading. Let's face it, the majority of people who drop out are less educated and left school because they loathe reading and other scholastic activities.

Those who read on and educate themselves well are not the rule, they are the exception.

I have no doubt you're educated. However, your comprehension skills could use some work.

For one, the writer of this article was quoting an article; an article that used enrollment of school as a base for determining education. I agree it's not the best way to determine one's education (I personally love education but dislike school), but it does allow for a valid measurement of determining if one can or cannot understand the difference of an active and passive sentence based on accessible knowledge.

I dropped out of school at 16 and I have to say that I was offended by the seemingly off hand comment that this makes me uneducated. My IQ is 130, and I am by no means less educated for the fact I did not finish high school in the traditional way. By your standards, I apparently shouldn't even be able to express this sentiment. So thanks for not only providing a less than helpful "example" on a relatively simple subject but for insulting a potential reader. I'm sure I'm better off using the knowledge I've procured through years of reading actually insightful material.
