Have I used the correct grammar for " years' "?

Thank you, Grammar Girl! To those still skeptical, I hope you will consider LiquidWeird's comment again: Though it is difficult to conceptualize the notice "belonging" to the "two weeks," thinking about phrases such as "a year's time" demonstrates that this must in fact be the case.

I don't think the advice in the tip is correct. There is no possessive in "two weeks notice." The notice doesn't belong to the two weeks. It should actually be "two weeks of notice," but it's seldom, if ever, said that way. If there were to be any punctuation added, it might be "two-weeks notice," with a hyphen connecting the compound adjective.

I am working on my resume. Would it be Three years experience as a supervisor/lead or Three years' experience as a supervisor/lead. ????

Also, Over five years' developing, designing and implementing workshops. or Over five years of developing, designing and implementing workshops. ??????

How about "driver's license," "drivers license" or "drivers' license." I write for a publication that chooses drivers license, without any apostrophe, is that correct? I usually write it "driver's license."

I agree with your article but I have a nagging doubt... I think that there is more to this than meets the eye. Two Weeks Notice, for example, is not a sentence. It's a proper noun. A name. An object. A 'thing'. I went into a clothing shop yesterday and there was a big sign saying "Mens" over a selection of shirts. I nearly got my pen out to correct it - "Men's". It is an abbreviation of "Men's shirts". But we see "Mens", "Two Weeks Notice" and terms such as "Directors Conference" everywhere. This could be the result of a common misuse of language. Hmmm. Or, it could be that the terms are being used outside of any form of syntax. They are just labels and, as such, are stripped of punctuation and any other linguistic apparatus. One final example is my surname - Robinson. It's short for Robin's son. It's obvious why this name was abbreviated and the punctuation was removed. Could the same apply for Two Weeks' Notice? Note my use of capitals - just like in the film. It's a proper noun.

But notice how I wasn't brave enough to write Devils Advocate ; )

I found your article while trying to work out whether there is an apostrophe in phrases such as this week's meeting or last year's conference. I'm hoping the above are correct (since it's just one year/week that is referenced) as I'm about to use a variation of one of these for a website news item (and I hate making grammatical errors).

That's true if it's plural. Note that it's "one year's time" vs. "two years' time"

Ah, thank you! This one always gets me. Apostrophe after the s as in a proper last name ending in s. *makes note on forehead*
