@Dr. Goodword ... it is good enough for the Encyclopædia Britannica; thus, it is a word.

The reason 'aptronym' is not found in any dictionary (only Wictionary, which is unedited) is that it is not a word. You cannot take an English word like "apt" and add "onym" to it to create new words. These words are correctly created from Greek stems only.

Incidentally, why is aptronym not listed at Merriam-Webster.com?
